Living A Spiritual Life

What Does Living Spiritually Actually Mean?

After years of chasing external success, I learned that living spiritually isn’t about perfection or performance; it’s about returning to who I really am, beyond fear, ego, and identity, and allowing my soul to lead the way.

For much of my life, I thought I was living in alignment. After all, I had the career, the accolades, the travels, the audiences, the experiences that so many would call a success. And in many ways, I was successful. But underneath it all was a quiet, persistent hum. A sense that something big was missing.

I looked for it in others, in circumstances, in things, but it wasn’t until I began to truly live spiritually that I started to understand what the missing piece was.

I am sharing what I’ve learned, as someone who’s walked, stumbled, and danced her way through the transition of living from fear to living with love - Oh, and by the way, it’s ongoing!

Living A Spiritual Life - Let’s Start With What It Is Not

Let’s be clear, living spiritually is not about your ego or what I call your 3D self, although this version of you plays a huge role in the path to living spiritually.

The ego is often the biggest block between who you think you are and who you truly are. It’s that part of you that believes you are an island: separate from others, separate from nature, separate even from your soul. It’s the identity you’ve built over time, based on beliefs, experiences, and the stories you’ve inherited or created to explain your life. These stories are smoke screens, and our egos will defend them fiercely, even when they no longer serve us.

I thought I had it made. I was a touring performer, living my best life - and one I wholly created. I travelled the world, got treated like a queen and didn’t answer to anyone. I was harvesting experience after experience, lesson after lesson, until one day - it all felt like nothing.

I know I did for years.

Coz we are living in a material world…

Our egos attach themselves to the material world we live in. What we do, what we have, who we know, and what we’ve achieved. It believes that our value is measured by external markers: our career, our bank balance, our relationship status, our titles, our reputation - the list goes on.

I lived that chapter. For decades. Many of us do. Until it starts to crack.

The ego is fueled by fear. Fear of not being enough. Fear of failure. Fear of being left behind. Fear of being exposed. And when we live from that place, we can feel lost, disconnected and unfulfilled. We never quite feel good enough. We chase validation, approval, and answers from external sources, and we chase them from everywhere but where we actually need to - within.

“When you stop chasing external validation, you create space to finally hear your own truth.”

So, What Does It Mean to Live A Spiritual Life?

Living a spiritual life is not about sitting cross-legged on a mountain (unless that calls of course). It’s not about going from retreat to retreat, and turning up at your weekly yoga session. It’s not about detoxing or trying the latest health and wellness fad that sent TikTok crazy. It’s not about being perfect, pure, or untouchable, and it’s certainly not about avoiding the human experience.

Quite the opposite.

It’s about remembering that we are not separate. That we are part of something far greater. Your spirit, the divine, the universe, higher consciousness, divine intelligence, universal energy, God, Source, the higher self-whatever name you decide to give it. It makes no odds what word we associate with this.

I love spirit. I love heart. I love the divine. The essence of nothing greater.

Anyway - It simply IS.

When we live spiritually, we internalise our experiences rather than react to them. Seeing our life as a series of opportunities to expand, grow, release, and heal is a gift and one that only you can experience for yourself. Most of all, when we live with spirit, heart-led, and with intention, we return to our truest self. The version of us that existed before the world told you who we should be.

For me, this journey really began when I stripped back most of what I had built.

Moving to Gozo, slowing down and being still enough to listen were choices my soul gently pushed me toward. And trust me, it wasn’t always graceful or easy. There were moments of exhaustion, fear, doubt and utter disbelief. But there was also a deeper peace that I never had when I was chasing life from the outside in.

For me, living spiritually means:

  • Allowing all perspectives to exist without attaching to any.

  • Understanding that everything serves a higher purpose.

  • Trusting that your soul chose this path for a reason and the reasons will become clear if you trust!

  • Releasing the constant need for external validation.

  • Letting go of comparison, competition, and control.

  • Learning to listen deeply to your intuition. Your soul’s quiet, persistent voice. Have you ever heard it?

  • Knowing that your worth was never up for negotiation.

I’m not here to tell you I have it all figured out. I don’t. But I’ve learned that living spiritually is not a destination, it’s a practice. A remembering. A homecoming.

It’s about waking up each day and choosing to live from love instead of fear. From expansion instead of contraction. From trust instead of control.

And if you’re reading this and feel that gentle pull, a little whisper that there’s more to life, then know that you’re not alone. You never were. That’s the greatest illusion the ego ever sold us.
