Promoted Tweets..The Low Down
Twitter is clever. Its algorithms determine what will be interesting to what user so if your promoted tweet is about how to grow Sunflowers in May, you can bet your bottom dollar it will show up on florists, gardeners and green fingered wannabes walls. What a relief! We have to give it to them, they do make our jobs ever so easy where they can!
Obviously, Twitter can’t guarantee your promoted tweet being seen by everyone, (#youcanthaveitall) but it won’t be long before this is widely used and therefore widely seen. Watch this space.
Now, what’s the point? If you are a business its another form of advertising and as we mentioned above, you can target accordingly. Its a way of you getting in the front of that window display and Twitter’s geographic targeting increases the relevance of your message based on location too so it really is a valuable tool for businesses relying on local customers.
The best thing about a promoted tweet is that they are priced on a Cost-per-Engagement (CPE) basis, so you only pay when someone retweets, replies to, clicks or favorites your Promoted Tweet. In addition, impressions on Retweets are free and can extend the reach and cost-effectiveness of your campaign many times over. How cool is that?!
Just like organic Tweets, relevant and interesting messages are rewarded above all else. Tweets that engage and resonate with users will appear more frequently so it really is down to you too tweet well and think about who your tweeting to.
Last month they extended promoted tweets to mobile devices too; read what Mashable said about it here.
Now, I have no idea what Twitter will do with an overload of twitter advertising but I have complete trust in their ability to make it work!
